Journey as a mission techie

These past 12 weeks as a mission techie have open my eyes to a whole new world. I did not know about how there a lot of companies here in San Francisco like Doubledutch, Square, Soundcloud, and Linkedin. I am very happy to have joined this program because it has helped me be more confident in my skills and abilities.

Past 3 Weeks

In these past 3 weeks I have learned a lot of things. It has been fun and interesting journey. I have learned  lot about myself and technology. We visited Square and Soundcloud. We also learned how to use Wordpress. One of our teachers for coding gave us challenge to solve. It was challenging and I wanted to give but the help of my teachers I was able to understand and solve the problem.

It's almost the end...

Thinking ahead, there are only a couple of weeks left of techies. The program has helped me prepare and expand my horizons. Yesterday we went to Square and I loved it. The staff was friendly but what shocked me the most was seeing a Techie Alumni working at Square. It was impressive and eyeopening. I'm excited for the program to end, but at the same time I don't. I've met great people that I hope to work with one day. The end is near, but it's just the beginning to my career.

Week 5!!!!!!!!!

Man, Oh, Man!!

What a great week. Yesterday May 18, 2016 was nice. I enjoyed giving back to the community and seeing several people open their first email accounts through Get Connected 2016. It opened my eyes to see that the Latin community is very illiterate when it comes to technology. Get Connected motivated me to give back to the community in the technology aspect. At the same time it made me realize that people that were once in my shoes made it to big companies. I enjoyed connecting with several people through LinkedIn, it expanded my horizons even more. Today May 19th we learned coding with Jorge and Yaritza. At first it was a headache, but now I understand. Loops and strings, here I come!

Week 5 as a Mission Techie

As week 5 comes to an end I have learned a lot of things. My favorite thing I learned this week was coding specifically Javascript. Learned about strings and loops. I am excited to learn more and I cant wait. Also I am excited to go to be going to Linkedin tomorrow.
Week 5

This past week has been busy, crazy, fun, eventful, and mind opening. So many opportunities to get us prepared for the world after we graduate from MEDA. On Tuesday we went to the University of San Francisco and explored the campus a little and also got a feel what it would be like to actually attend such a prestigious university. We also had the chance to listen to the staff of the University to better understand their role working there. Also, a perk to working at the school is free tuition and registration, and it was just amazing because that is an opportunity that can never be handed to anyone. I'm excited and I can't wait for next week

Fifth week of the Mission techies

Our fifth week of our Mission Techies program has been crazy. We have had a very busy but wonderful week, we have gone to USF and we will be going to Linked In tomorrow. I am very exited for tomorrow and this program has thought me a lot in the last few weeks. I have learned to be more confident about myself and learned how to work together with our group for our projects. Today we learned Java Script which for the first time I can say I understood it very well, more than html. Leo also talked to us about network and took us on a small field trip to the server room which was pretty amazing on how much cables there are in there.

-Anonymous
Another week full of challenges as Mission Techie had fun and learned new things as always I invite you to continue learning so you can achieve their dreams!

week 5

Today was interesting we learned more on coding specifically by clicking inspect and the console. We also learned network management with Leo and he gave us a tour inside MEDA on were all the connections go, and we even went on the basement to check out the service room.

Mission Techies fifth week

I am deep in the coding trenches, fighting with the heavy artillery of loops and logical symbols. I am fighting against um... not being broke! I wake up every day and I am very tired but I continue to code and develop my tech skills that I as a Latino am supposed to be incapable of possessing- what a lie! I am learning, learning and learning. I feel that I come from the very bottom of society and I climbing up a ladder of algorithms and formulas I can't pronounce yet. One day I'm going to be on the cover of Rich Chicano Magazine and then I'll use my money to save the world... or at least support my family. Anyways, tech is amazing and last night we ate Pollo Campero! I don't know what the meaning of life is but I'm pretty sure it involves Pollo Campero. The panelists who spoke last night were very inspiring! I was asleep though so their words passed into my sleeping brain and lodged in my unconscious from which they may arise in a moment of sudden inspiration. One day I am going to be a champion at coding. But for now I'm going to head to my apartment and be a champion at sleeping.

Week 5

This was the busiest week yet at the program. Tuesday we went to USF for mock interviews and apply for jobs at the school. Wednesday we volunteer at Everett middle school to teach families how to use the internet and make a gmail account. Thursday we started learning software and java script.

Week number 5

It was a hectic week because of the get connect event on Wednesday, but it went good. On Thursday I just realized that I want to go in networking because it is interest me and enjoy learning it.

We did so much, little sleep

So today TheeDoniestofallJohnsons all one word (theedonjohnson for short), gained connections to Linkedin and drop box and still on the path of creating a business, but i still say we need more burritos and more places to go. Fun Fact: I have none.

OhmNomNom's Weeklies Week 4

Week four is coming along and we are a third of the way through the program.
We've gotten to disassemble and reassemble both PC and Macbook laptops. I'd never realized how much organization is required for the reassembly of laptops form the motherboard up, everything from the sizes of the screws to the order in which components needed to be screwed in and reconnected had to be precise otherwise it may not fit correctly or cause damage to the case.

On the software side of things we've touched upon formatting and styling, especially with CSS (cascade style sheets) and using them as a resource to keep our html files looking cleaner while helping to manage the way they appear.

That's it for this week, keep on nommin'!

WEEK 4 as a Mission Techie

As the weeks go by the curriculum is increasing by the minute and its getting exciting because now, events are coming. At first I wasn't as confident in HTML but once I really observed and go back to my mistakes it all started to make sense to me. Also, on Monday it was exciting to walk with my group to see the how many technological support stores that are in the neighborhood, which is very little.  This program has opened my mind that there are many career choices in the tech industry. I'm looking forward to every event that's approaching as we speak.

Blog #2

We are continuing our education in hardware and software and started our work with CSS and incorporating HTML into it so we can start customizing our websites to what we want. On the hardware side we have taken apart two laptops one a P.C. and MAC. Honestly I prefer hardware a little more but I know that I gotta keep better track of my screws especially if you are working on MACs because once their gone their gone for good. Not to say that coding isn't fun,I really enjoy the troubleshooting and problem solving when learning a new tag and how to incorporate it into my website. I also really like my group  I was assigned for the project. We really work well together and treat each other with respect. I can't wait to present our project to the rest of the group.

Week 3&4

Week 3, we took apart PC laptops. It was a bit hard because of all the tiny screws, but it was simple to me. Week 4, we did IT support that I suck at it, but I pulled through it ok.
Week 3&4

Week 3 we continued to work on our group projects and did research on our topic. We aslo learned how to take apart laptops which was so much fun. I love getting laptops that have missing screws and and parts. Week 4 we got a lecture about tech support and how we would help out a customers. Thursday we continue to learn coding. I started using css but my page got messed up and it just made things a lot more confusing. I'll be staying with html

Techies week #4

this week has been great! I built a computer model out of a shoe box and started to take apart  a mac books! (way easier then PC). now im getting into coding more, just getting the hang of it. but so far pretty easy and due able ! looking forward to learning even more!

Leaning to Code HTML/CSS

 5/12/13

Today's lesson on coding really had me super excited.
Being able to actually look at the code understand what it says was one of the most amazing feelings. Also being able to create a page really inspired me to want get in depth in the coding field, this coding class actually has me coding at home so I can get as much practice as possible. It is my goal to try and perfect my skills in coding. We also took apart a mac book and it was a lot easier than the PC and Microsoft lap top. Hardware isn't exactly my favorite, but today went smooth and I hope that I can build enough patience to get better at taking apart the computers.

                                   -Jessica Carolina Dean (Jessie)
Our last two weeks we have learned a lot about our self's and others. We have worked on our group projects, and have created replicas of computer towers, that project was great we really got to use our imagination and got to put one together just the way we thought it would work. Thursday's have been our hardware/coding class day. I love doing hardware because we really get to into all the components that make up the computer but coding has been really hard and confusing, I don't think everyone learns the same way.

Sincerely,

Unanimous

Week 4

Week 4 is going great. I am learning coding skills and pretty soon I will know the secrets of how to hack your microwave and turn it against you. The time is approaching when humanity will be obsolete and I will control the world through Java. Thus, tech skills are essential for the new century. I live in an increasingly technological world and you need tech skills to stay afloat. Therefore- the development of such skills is like the development of Noah's ark. The waters continue to rise and the technologically savvy will stay afloat. Go Mission Techies!

Week 4

Week 4 already? Time has been flying by so quickly.  We learned about tech support early in the week. It's interesting, but doesn't seem like my thing. I loved taking apart the mac book pro though. My group had a lot of progress with the project. I really like the hands-on areas of the program. Looking forward to next week.

OhmNomNom's Weeklies Week 2

As we wrap up our second week here at Mission Techies we are starting to move into learning about tech and getting our feet wet in the fundamentals of HTML and the dis-assembly/reassembly of a desktop computer tower. In both cases organization and preparation were fundamental in keeping the processes simple and clear. Last week we established our values within the program and familiarized ourselves with the mission statement of the Mission Techies program.

I'm optimistic of where the programs will take us in the coming weeks as well as the information and opportunities that we will be exposed to!

My First two weeks as a Mission Techie.

These first two weeks have been great. The first week we learned everything we are going to run into. We have review the CompTIA A+  Certification which is a almost 2,000 page book. The first Friday we meet with Sarah Newell she though us our first elevator pitch that was really helpful to finish our skill chart. Our second week has been we got into coding and hardware, IT WAS AWESOME!!!  Well I still don't understand coding, but I think Ill get better at it in time.
I am really exited to continue with  this program and learn more. I hope all my teammates feel the same way about it.

My first two Weeks at Mission Techies

Thursday, April 28, 2016

Hey fellow Cohorts of Spring 2016,

The first two weeks here as a Mission Techie has been great so far and really interesting because I have learned to create an Elevator pitch, how to present myself, and about Money Mondays. I also refreshed my memory working on our Skill Chart on PowerPoint. Before I joined the program I never thought this would be so much fun and exciting learning about everything. Today we did some hardware and did some coding, the coding I need to work on more but, I'll get it down once I get the hang of it. I can't wait to learn more about coding it seems very exciting and the hardware is pretty fun, it's like an electrical version of LEGOS.

My first two weeks as a Techie. 4/28/2016

My first two weeks as a new Mission Techies student was interesting. I met so many different types of people all wanting the same thing I want. A chance at a better future, a chance to achieve, succeed, and diversify in the IT world. In the short time we got here we have gotten to know and build relationships with one another. We've also learned a lot of the basics of IT such as names and locations of components, how to take apart and reassemble a dell computer tower, an Intro to HTML coding and we had a chance to test out a new class known as "Money Mondays". I'm still feeling as exited as when I first started and am ecstatic to continue the program and see where all of this leads.

Fresh Meat As Cohort #10

Week one as a mission techie was basic. We not only learned the values as a mission techie, but we also added our own little spice to it. I was incredibly amazed as to how many terms from the CompTIA A+ slideshow I have memorized. I am anticipating to learn and memorize many more. The CompTIA A+ exam may be 3 hours long and all the way in San Jose, but best believe I'm definitely looking forward to studying endlessly over the weekend.

As a week two mission techie I can honestly Thursday has been my favorite so far. I am glad i started with the hardware side. Despite being stressed out due to having a difficult time taking my computer apart because my CPU was broken and the optical drive was jammed, i really enjoyed coding. Yaritza was super helpful and inspired me to google more html tags than the ones Susana (I think that is her name) was teaching us. I am looking forward to learning more code.

- MotherDani.

the baby steps of mission techies

from a world where i thought i was advance in technology. i understand i have a lot to learn and I'm very exited! from hardware to coding today and i think i get it a little more. i love learning!  i just really good about this program and looking forward to learn more!

My First and second weeks!

My first week was very informal about the program and it got me excited for the future.
My second week started off with me feeling a little nervous because of the presenting of our skill chart but, I pushed through it okay. I had a very great Thursday because of the hardware and coding portion. I really enjoyed both parts of it. I really do look forward to this program.

My first two weeks as a Mission Techies

The first week of the Missions Techie programs was lots of fun. We learned about the businesses development curriculum and how to write an elevator pitch. As the second week comes to an end I learned how to write basic HTML code and take apart a computer and put it back together. It was hard but I did and I cant wait to learn more and do it better.

1st and 2nd Week!

Hello everyone,

Our second week is coming to a close! Out of both weeks, I have to say that the second week has been my favorite. Thursday was great, we took apart a DELL computer (OPTIPLEX 360), and learned the very basics to HTML. Currently, I don't have a favorite competency since we've only done two. To this point I have my elevator pitch just in case I meet the CEO of Google. I appreciate everyone that has given this opportunity to a lot of low income individuals.

3rd week I am more than ready for you, see you later!

Getting Started with Mission Techies

In my first two weeks at mission techies I wasn't sure what i was getting myself into, but being in the class room really opened my eyes to things that i need to change professionally like my resume and how it should be formatted. We started to learn how to code which is what i  really started to like and hope to really get into depth. We did some hardware work which is taking apart a computer; I wasn't to excited when I heard that , but once i got into it and started actually taking the computer apart it became easy and fun. Everything i thought coming into this program has changed. I'm excited going forward and cant wait to see what is in store for me.

- Jessica Dean (Jessie)

Our First and Second Week!! :)

Hello everyone this week we have met different kinds of people and living with them, in these two weeks we have acquired new knowledge and other skills that we did not know we had! continue to the end! good luck to you all!

-Eunice

first and second week

So far so good the first week has been more informative, but the second week has been a little more tough. Today we learned the basics on coding and for the first time in my life I have broke down a computer which was interesting. Another class that I enjoyed was money Monday It was fun to learn how to manage our money we have to think forward. Susana was help full with coding which I was intimidated at first but she was very patient.

My first and second finished

Our first week got a schedule on how the program was going to be for the next 12 weeks. We did a skill chart and elevator pitch. We worked on our presentation skills. Week 2 we develop short term goals and financial business. Also finally got our hands on learning about the basic skills of coding and taking computers apart and putting them back together.

Week 2 finished!

We're just coming up on the end of week two, and I've already learned a lot. We spent week 1 learning about our values as techies and how to earn certifications. We also learned how to create skill charts and an elevator pitch, which was quite challenging It was a lot of lectures and writing. Week 2 was a chance to really get hands-on. We had a chance to learn about what our short-term goals were and learn the specs of a computer. And finally, on Thursday we had a chance to do basic coding and take apart a computer. It was a very educational 2 weeks!

Our Week

Our week was an awesome week, we worked on technology and learned about computers. Our cohort is amazing and full of talent. Steve Jobs is no longer with us but I think Mission Techies is the next best thing. I'm a member of Cohort number 10. According to Ancient Mayan prophecies, the number 10 represents tech skills and outstanding success in the tech industry. We want to be successful and to help the world and if you don't believe us just watch! I had a great day, I hope you are having a blessed day and that you stay close to Jesus. If you don't believe in Jesus, may the force be with you, young padawan.

Burrito Week 2

So this week learned about basic coding which I dominated, good old hardware, which I didn't finish our values, MM, elevator pitch and long term life goals. Alas I got the people assigned in my group hungry for burritos and tacos! Though to be honest I low key wanted Lumpia, still burritos are love and burritos are life!

-Thee Doniest of All  Johnsons

My crazy first and second week as a techie

Its week two and I'm not sure if I will be good at this but I'm going to give it a try. I learned how to code I really like codding. I've been learning a lot from these two weeks. I can only picture what else will I learn. The more Knowledge you know its the better. Its the first time I ever opened a computer. Codding was interesting, But I really liked it.
Mission Techie
WEEK 2  Cohort 10
I learned how to take apart a computer and put it back together. I liked it much better than coding. I learned elevator pitch. I learned how to be patient.. i really wish i had tacos de asada right in front of me right now with horchata. I liked this week very much.

Week 11!

It's Week 11 here at Mission Techies. This week we worked on the computers donated from USF. We looked at the specs from the BIOS and recorded everything on a data entry platform. There ready to install windows 7 and be used by next class. Unfortunately we didn't get to code but tech support was helpful as well. We did get to meet the mentors from Linkedin and visit the building. I'm glad that I will be getting a mentor! Another thing we worked on was Salesforce. I had trouble with a bit of the task we were working on but I managed to get it done. It was cool.

Next week is our last here @MT. I learned plenty about different topics  related to the tech industry. It was a great opportunity for me and I do hope to land a job related to tech. I'll make sure to follow up Leo and work my way up.

Thank you

-OgreByte.

WEEK # 11!!

Hey guys
this week started off great because we  got to visit Linkedin which was an amazing experience. Getting to meet a few people that work for them is cool since they can talk to us about what they do. The fact that all of them where laid back and talking to us like they knew us was what made it easier.
Salesforce was good too getting more knowledge down. We got to Check all the specs on the computers that we received from USF. We didn't get to do any coding this week which sucks!! That's what some of us look forward to during the week. We are almost done just a few more days !!!

Mannyntosh_ Manny
Week 11 we do Sales Force and we are almost finish just like Coding almost wehad costermer coming and bring there laptop or desktop to repier there stuff

Week --9 & 10--

The last 2 weeks were very fun, we had a on site visit to LinkedIn, worked on a few customers computers, and took in a new donation of computers. The new LinkedIn building was insane, the whole work space was very inviting and friendly. All the mentors were awesome, they were super nice and super friendly. I really appreciated them taking the time out of their busy day to entertain us. After looking at their new work space, I would love to have a career at LinkedIn. We also got a new donation of computers from USF. We had to take inventory and make sure the computers were operable and worth keeping. This week was definitely one of the best weeks so far, I look forward to whats next.

-_- The Plug -_-

week 10 and 11

We are now near the end of the mission techies program and things are starting to heat up. Last week we went to a couple of job sites to have a view of technology companies. We went to Jones IT to review what they did on a daily basis. They did a lot of what we practiced at MEDA such as ticketing a computer and documenting what was the problem with the computer. After the tour at that place, we went back to MEDA and we waited for another tech company called Monkey Brains. The guy that came in mentioned how we can use our skills to document tickets and work outside setting up wifi equipment. The next presentation we had was with the Jones IT CEO we met on Tuesday. He talked about the wifi connection and how channels can effect the speed of the wifi. On the 11th week we went to Linkedin to meet with our mentors! We had a good time there and we got to meet the mentors. Other then the presentations we had, we also worked on sales force and some coding. We also got some computers from UCSF and documented the info of what the computers had.

-Gigabyte Stallion
Well this week has been a hell of a week. I kinda got trapped in the abyss that is Vegas this weekend (one hell of a birthday weekend). Breaking my phone by jumping into a pool and losing my friend for almost a full 24 hours was not in my plans for this weekend but hey im thankful to be alive and still in one piece. However since i was trapped in vegas i was unable to go to linkedin and meet my mentor:( Luckily i am still able to get a mentor. In other news me and Danly replaced a laptop screen so that was cool. one more week!
Kilobye Kev out!
Week 11
I been chosen to be a leader of a group to manger 15 computers to search for the specs of the computers, so we copy the specs and  it in a little notes to keep track on each computer. ex: CPU type,RAM memory, and Hard Drive capacity, i help so i can pace the speed a little faster.

-lenix

Week 10&11

Oh man this is it! It's already the second to last week of MEDA! This program has really taught me a lot. I had a really great time going to LinkedIn this week. Their building and working environment was very welcoming and friendly. It was really nice inside and I can't believe their dinning floor was that big. I had a great time meeting the mentors and getting to know each and every single one of them. They all had great personalities so I'm fine with who ever I will be partnered with. I also got to work on my tech support skills and finished helping my client with her computer. My partner and I been working on this computer for a while and we are finally done! I can't wait to see the smile on her face!

I'm pretty sure it's week 10..

This past week we learned more about coding. Specifically HTML along with CSS. Our instructor showed us how we can change the font of text through code and the color as well. I still need to practice more and more. The coding is so far my main favorite task to do at M.T. After this program, hopefully I can join an all coding based program where I can learn more and enhance my skills and knowledge. Never thought I'd see the day where I would learn code. Lol. Though I must admit that I was very ignorant when it came to computers but after Mission Techies, this opportunity changed my view on computers and presented me with an insight of what the Tech industry is. More on this past week, we also learned how to work Salesforce. Our instructor taught us how to transfer data from Salesforce to a spreadsheet. After learning how to do it I saw that the process was fast and easy. Also if done right everything is well organized. (I couldn't help but notice the Easter egg with the SalesForce transfer to the spreadsheet. Bungie!) One last thing, I would like express my appreciation towards the other Techies. They showed up to class early on Thursday and went to go pick up computers that were donated from USF. Unfortunately I was unable to make it. I look forward to next week. Graduation is almost near. The days went by fast....

Week 7, 8, 9

During theses weeks at Mission Techies we have learned the basics of coding. So far its going well. I wouldn't say it's easy nor hard, but rather think of it as something that acquires patience and practice. Take it as a challenge and make it a goal to learn it. Classifying something through it's difficulty doesn't make matters any better. We also worked on SalesForce with Jose. I'm starting to get a better understanding on how to work it but i still need to work on it more. It's not as bad as I originally thought. I did complete some challenges but I see myself falling behind in class. I should consider asking more questions. Something else we did at M.T. was work on computers for families. My partner and I had to work on a donated Lenovo laptop. Through all the diagnostics and observations we can conclude that the laptop is going to be use for parts. Techshop here at M.T has been great help  for gaining experience, teamwork, and personal growth over all. This is what I am noticing in myself while attending this internship.

P.S. If anybody actually reads my post.. and are wondering why I chose 'OgreByte' as my alias. Halo. Ogre2 and Snakebite. From CLG. Yeah I know typical nerd right.  Lol.

Weeks 8 and 9 breh!

Hello world, and mission techs. It's been a while since I last blogged due to the heavy course work we've had. Weeks eight and nine were fun.  We covered a lot in salesforce such as how to create a report and dashboards. We also covered how to create tabs for contacts as well. Something new that we got into was html coding. We learned how to code our own website and add images, words, background colors, and links. It has been very fun coding and learning all these helpful skills.
We also finished our linkedin profiles and took a quiz yesterday.

-Gigabyte Sensei

week 7-9

Welp it's that time of week again, BLOG TIME!!! A lot has happened and we've learned a ton. We began basic coding with html. Its a very simple coding language that has a lot of different components to it. So far we've learned tags, opening closing and adding images to it. Today we covered adding hyperlinks to those images and adding lists to the website. I thoroughly enjoy it overall. As far as salesforce goes we covered how to create a report and dashboards. We also covered how to create a tab as well.Salesforce is a really cool program that you can customize to the company's individual needs, its a really simple yet interchangeable platform that you can tailor to your specific needs. We also finished our linkedin profiles and took a quiz yesterday. Kilobye Kev out.

Week --8 & 9--

Where to begin... Last week we started our coding sessions with Susana and it was an absolute blast. She introduced us to the html coding language and boy was it fun. It's really fun messing around with the html code and watching it come to life. We started coding our very first webpage and learned how to add headings, paragraphs, hyperlinks, and images. The best part of the coding session is being able to view your work instantaneously. It just motivates you to want to keep going and you tend to lose track of time. This week we started off by continuing the SalesForce workshop with Jose, he showed us how to edit and create custom lists, reports and dashboards. It's really amazing how you can customize and tailor the entire layout for each specific individual, department, or company. I look forward to learning more as we progress on through the weeks.

-The Plug-

Week 7-9

Hey guys seems like we have been forgetting to blog.. but well here we go. We have learned a lot in the last couple weeks, salesforce and coding and also we haven't been doing much tech support and I'm looking forward to keep working on them. Salesforce has been interesting because sometimes I feel lost and unsure of whats going on but other times everything seems too easy. The coding part has been my favorite so far its fun I know its just beginning but just feels really comfortable. Susana makes the class really fun, she helps us whenever we get stuck on anything but also encourages to help each other. Today we started adding images and I learned how to play around with the image sizes and also the positioning of the images. We added a link to the images which is fun to do. Looking forward to learning more from the coding in the last few weeks we have in the program. Hopefully with everything we learn here we will be able to take hack reactor and learn more there.

Mannyntosh- Manny

Week Number 8

Week number 8..... and 9..

For week numero ocho we learned more about SalesForce and how to navigate and create custom objects and such with Jose.. We also learned more about tech support and the online ticket system with the tech guy. Ernesto I think his name is. We finally got into the coding curriculum with Susana. I actually really enjoy learning how to code, we are just learning the basics html but I like it so far. Today we learned images and background colors fro websites in html code. I think I'm kind of getting the hang of it.

week 9

Today at MEDA I learned how to do hyperlinks, images, and background color in our coding class. I also fixed my references, my resume, and my cover letter thanks to Leo. Now my resume can look better when I apply for a new job. I am learing a lot at MEDA

IoalyRAM

Week Number 8

During week number 8 we mainly learn about SalseForce and the thing we can create with it also we were able to use coding (html) to create a page with a list with number and with out numbers and pictures to explain the things we like and the places we would love to visit. This was very helpful because this was a fun way to learn about the basics of coding and how hyperlinks work and how the are used.

week 8 & 9

Woooooaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!! We got 4 more weeks to go!!! Within these two weeks, we learned more about Salesforce and LinkedIn and how beneficial they are in the business world. We have finally completed our LinkedIn profiles and worked on a couple modules to enhance our knowledge about Salesforce. What I found most interesting about these two weeks was coding! Coding is very interesting and I really like it. Although it was repetitive and tricky, it is not a boring subject to learn. To be used to coding, you have to learn to accept failure after failure. It is a headache at times when you are not able to get everything right, but once you do, you will understand how everything works!!! Sooooooo, where the pizza at Leo?!?!

week 7

Last week at MEDA me and a partner installed an operating system on a computer that didn't have one. it was a little complicated because i didn't know much on how to do that but Leo helped us. After that we installed drivers on it. I had a good experience because I never done that before.

Week 7

Lots to blog about this week, we made major strides this week regarding salesforce, tech support, LinkedIn and our business presentation. Jose has been doing an awesome job breaking down and explaining how salesforce as a platform works for a business, both large and small. Its cool how this platform allows you design without coding. Emerson came on Thursday as we began wiping and reinstalling windows 7 on donations and customer computers. Its a very simple yet tedious process that is necessary to our curriculum. Lisa came in on Monday and we began adding finer details to our profiles. As far as our presentations go, I am very excited to present but our presentation needs some more work before hand.

Wow... Week 7 Already

This past week was very informative and really hands on. The programs starting to get more and more intense as we get closer and closer to the end. We started off by diving deeper into the salesforce training and updating our LinkedIn profiles, then we got to work on client computers that were brought in for repairs. Jose did another fantastic job going over salesforce and showing us how to create custom tabs and objects for future clients or for our own personal use. After the salesforce presentation, we started diagnosing and working on our client's computer. While diagnosing the laptop we were taught to use the ticketing system so that we could keep track of everything. Eventually my partner and I came to the conclusion that the laptop's battery was dead and needed a fresh install of windows 7. I learned how to install drivers for the different types of hardware inside the laptop so that it would function properly. Overall this was another great week, I really learned a lot and leo does an amazing job of teaching us how to do things in the real world work environment.

week 7

This week was great. I am now very confident in my ability of taking apart a laptop/computer and putting it back together. This week we did  some more sales force learning and updated our LinkedIn profiles. What we learned in sales force this week was how to create a separate tab so we can use it as a contact list. We also got to learn how to reinstall windows 7 and install device drivers that where important in order to connect the computers Wi-Fi.  I am beginning to see how computers function and what the necessary steps are to make them function.

Week 7

It's already week 7, I can't believe it. Time flies when your having a great time at MEDA. This week we were pretty busy catching up with our LinkedIn profiles, our sales force session and tasks, and our tech support skills. We also had to start and prepare our business communication project, which we will present next week. Leo wants us to get comfortable presenting and speaking in front of a large audience for our future presentations in the workplace or anywhere in general. As the week came to an end, things are getting more intense because more computers are coming in and we have to ticket each and every single one of them to stay organized. I can't imagine how stress everyone will be as the computers pile up but I'm pretty confident in everyone. Let pray we stay organized!

Week --5&6--

This past 2 weeks  were really jam packed with fun activities. Last week started off great, we had a hands on activity that involved taking apart windows based laptops. The laptop activity helped me get better familiar with proper repair procedures. Then we got a brief presentation on LinkedIn, the presentation showed me how important it is to have a profile. This week started off even better. We got right into it with a great presentation, thanks to Jose from Salesforce. The presentation reviewed what the Salesforce platform is all about. I learned the basics of what Salesforce is and how you can use it as an individual or how it can be implemented in a business setting. Then we moved onto working on our resumes, we partnered up with our peers and reviewed each others resumes and instructed each other on how we could improve them. The week ended off with us taking apart apple Macbook Pro's. It was another great activity that showed everyone the differences of working with a windows based laptop vs working with apple products.

Week 5&6

In week 5 we pair up with a Mission techies and go wore our Resume. We learn to take out a laptop it was fun we talk about LinkedIn and Saleforce what you can do. In week 6 we learn about  Mac book Pro Howe to take a part it was a challenge for me i med it. Know we doing a project about technology you can pair up with a mission techies or do it a lone. I'm doing about Coding.

Week 6!

What's up!
02/25/16

This is our 6th week here at Mission Techies! We learned about a new platform called Saleforce. It's pretty good if you want to keep track of clients and stay in contact. Personally I don't see myself using it, but I would recommend it to someone who's either a salesman or stays in contact with customers. This week we also opened up an Apple macbook got the chance to see what's inside and what the logicboard looks like compared to a typical motherboard. I found it very helpful to use as a reference so when we start working on the computers and laptops for families. I will be able to know and what to expect as well as how to do it right. One last thing I learned this week was proper business communication. How to ask and answer the right questions. What to expect with customer interaction. I feel ready to start providing families with tech support.

Week Numero 5 & 6

This week started off really great. We created our LinkedIn profile which I've been really excited about, but I haven't filled in all the criteria. We learned about sales force, which is a great platform to help keep everything organized when running a business. We also updated our resumes with our peers to keep the ball rolling. Leo also partnered us up to set up a desktop computer with all its components to see if we knew how to set up a network. What I personally found really interesting this week was taking apart a MAC laptop. It was quite easy surprisingly and I didn't have any trouble at all. I am really looking forward in helping our clients solve their problems because I am confident being a tech supporter!

- The Power Supply

WEEK #5&6

Week five we took apart a laptop and assembled back together we also practice our customer service tech support skills with Emerson to help us get ready for the tech support workshop we will be doing soon. We also worked more on our linkedin profiles and got more knowledge on what are the important things that we should have on it, also that we should only be doing connections with people we actually know. Week 6 was good it began with starting to work on Salesforce, we continued to look over our resumes. With help from another techie we looked over and got feedback on it. That was really great because there was things that we might have felt were good but to someone else it didn't sound great. We finished by doing a macbook pro dissembling and assembling it back together, it was fun because it shows the difference between apple laptops and other brand laptops. There are so many more screws in a Macbook that its easy to get confused, but by practicing now helps us get ready for when people begin to bring in laptops next week.

week 6

Well, this week was nice. i had a partner on Monday, or Tuesday and he taught me how to "fix" a computer if it's not turning on, which was because  the battery was dead and basically the laptop needed a new battery. on Monday we are going to do  a clean stall, i think that's what its call. Today, Thursday, i learned how to take the hard drive out of a mac pro which was pretty easy. In two weeks we have to present to our group and some staff that work here. I don't even know what I'm going to present yet so i better get on it! OK that's it for today!

    -Damaris

Week numero seis

Tons of stuff we learned this week. Salesforce is a really cool platform, it offers endless freedom to adjust and make it completely tailored to your needs. LinkedIn is also a really awesome and professional way to network and build past and or current connections. I thoroughly enjoy it and I look forward to using it in future endeavors in tech career paths. Speaking of career paths, we worked on our resumes this week with a partner and critiqued and helped each other out. And pizza to start the week! Cant beat free food lol and today we took apart macbooks (surprisingly the easiest computers ive worked on thus far x).  week 6 out!
Kilobye Kev

Week numba 6

This week was a memorable week. I finally got to disassemble a laptop. I dissembled and put back together an acer laptop and a mac book pro. The acer laptop took a lot longer to take apart then a macbook pro so I hope in the future I work more on mac books. This is something that I wanted to do a long time ago so I can work on my own laptop. I worked with a mission techie on my resume. We also worked on our linkedin profiles. Finally we worked on something new called sales force. Sales force is an app where you can create contacts and use it as a source of information to contact many customers. And this week we got our checks, ayye.

Week #6 has been a good week for me. Today I learned how to take apart a MAC laptop, it was much easier than the HP laptop I took apart last week. There was many screws for the MAC laptop but they were mostly the same sizes. I think I'm going to take one home and keep practicing at home.

IoalyRAM

Week #4

This week was great, we started off with a bit of a competition. We raced to see who could dissemble and reassemble the desktop computer the fastest. This activity helped us get reacquainted with the components of the computer. After the competition, we were sent out into the mission district to find local tech shops. The scavenger hunt, helped us get familiar with the surrounding tech shops and what the average repair rate was. Overall it was a great week, I really learned a lot.

WEEK 4

Hey guys,

this week we tested our speed in taking apart a PC which was fun felt a bit competitive but it was more to see where in the process we are of learning all the PC components. I felt a bit slow with my results felt like I could have done much better. I'm sure I wasn't the only one that felt that way, but now I feel a lot more comfortable taking a PC apart. We also went out into the mission to check some of the places that deal with fixing computers, see what kind of service they offered along with how they offered it. Some places had good customer service while others lacked most of it. The prices for them vary as well even if it was the same problem. Began to work on our resumes.

week numero 4

This week at MEDA I went to 2 stores with a partner to ask them if they provided tech support to customers. One store on 20th did provide tech support, but their customer service was poor. the other store i went to on 19th didn't provide tech support but they're customer service was good. even though  the guy didn't know what he was talking about he still tried to help us. Over all, I had a good experience and i learned how not to make the same mistakes they did when I provide customer service.

Week number 4!!!!

This week started off with a little competition because Leo decided to time us on how fast we can take apart and assemble back a system unit. I thought it was a bit challenging, but it was great that he did this activity because it allowed us to remember where and what everything is. He also sent us on a hunt for tech shops around the mission district to see how informational these shops were when it comes to questions and tech support. Leo wanted us to go through what they go through on the daily basis because we will soon have to answer and fix other peoples problems. We also had two guest speakers come in and help us with our resume and teach us about tech support. The last thing we did this week was learning how to do networking and create a network with a group of computers without using internet. Week five lets do it!

week #3

Here in my third week just made a cardboard processing unit (a computer made from cardboard) or CPU and dismantle a computer and rebuild it takes time but simple to me still having fun in the program.
-Lenix

WEEK #3

What's good,

It's week # 3 here at Mission Techies. I have learned a bit more about computers. Currently we are checking the specs on Lenovo Laptops. Another subject we learned about in the program was networking. Through networking we can present ourselves in the professional world and gain connections for particular fields we are interested in. We also presented our projects which was to make a computer case out of cardboard and  add the different components with labels. This helped me differentiate the different components that make a computer work. We also opened up a computer and took everything apart. I also found out that HP computers are complicated but nothing too serious to get frustrated about. So far I'm enjoying Mission Techies and I'm thankful for the opportunity.

Week Three

Week three of the Mission Techies Program has been exceptional. I really enjoyed everything we did and learned this week. I had a lot of fun making my own system unit out of cardboard and materials we had laying around. Tuesday we had the chance to do hands on hardware training which was amazing. We stripped a Dell Tower down to the bare metal, took every component and wire out and got the real feel of working with computer hardware. It was a little changeling at first but I had help from my peers so eventually I was able to do it on my own. The only problem was I didn't remember what went where. I just ended up using a picture I took of the Tower last week and went from there. Today we did the inventory for Lenovo Laptops which ran smoothly.

WEEK #3

What's up Docks,

This week was interesting to begin with since we all had to bring in our little cardboard projects. It showed some of our creative side and also help some of us learn more about the hardware of a computer. There are still many things I don't really understand but getting there as we learn. We began to learn about how we will have to create a professional account in Twitter, Linkin, FB, and so on. Getting to take the hardware out of a computer was pretty cool as well since I had never done that before. Got to see all the components inside and how each one is connected to one another. Looking forward to learning how to refurbish and also install software on computers.

Mannyntosh- Manuel

Week Three

This week has been a god one, I got to bee supervisor for the second time and we are getting close to learning how to install software. We also completed a project were we had to create a system unit and after that we got to take a real system unit apart and after put it back together, it was a fun experience were I realized that its not as easy as it looks, there is many hidden screws and when you think you might be done you always missed one. I guess it was like this for me because its the first time I took a computer apart.

-Kevin Colop

Week #3

I'm really happy to be in this class and that I'm learning a little bit of how computers work. I'm still a little bit nervous about what to do and to know about other computers. I really like this class a lot and i want to know more about it and learn.when i graduate this class i can repair my own computer or anyone that has a broken computer or laptop. Hopefully i can graduate from this class and know what to do when i start finding work that can fix and repair technology.

Recap of 3rd week

In our third week of MEDA, we started off the week by learning our hardware components. Prior to that, our take home assignment was to be creative and make a computer out of cardboard and we had to label and make all the components we remembered. After we presented our work, we actually took apart and put back together a Dell computer. It was pretty exciting to do because I enjoyed the hands on activity and it wasn't too hard with the help of my peers. Later in the week, a guest speaker came in to explain how important social media is and how it can benefit us in the future. She told us that she would guide us on creating our own LinkedIn profiles. We ended the week by doing more data entry/inventory making sure all the other laptops were in good condition.

- The Power Supply, Danly

Week #3

This week in MEDA, we started off by sharing our cardboard desktops that we made at home. We then learned how to completely dismantle desktop computers. Then we went about identifying the components that were pulled out from the desktop. After that, we preceded to put the computer back together. During this activity I got more comfortable with being able to properly identify the specific components that are inside of a desktop computer. We also learned to about social media and how it can be utilized as a tool to connect with potential employers. I try to stay away from social media, but the presentation made it clear as to why it can be important. Overall, this week was very informative and I learned a lot.

Week Numero Tres is over and this has been a jam packed week! Its been a challenge keeping up with everything we been learning the last week but its been a hell of a ride! building a computer out of cardboard and labeling each different component was fun but I've never been much of an arts and crafts guy. However to my surprise I did really enjoy taking apart a computer and putting it back again. Hardware might come easier for me but the goal is mastering software and picking up some coding on the way. What i really took away for this week was and is learning to balance my personal life with this program, I get what I put in and I might be skating by but the point is to excel and grow, not cruise along. Until a better me next week, Kilobyte Kev out!

Week three

This is week three at mission techies. So far I've learned all the components inside the system unit, I've taken it apart and will be putting it together today after class. I did data entry again this week which was kind of boring now. Monday i turned in a homemade cardboard computer. So it was kind of a mellow week for me.
 -Damaris
This week I learned how to identify, take out, and put back a system unit. It was very easy for me to understand what we were doing as soon as I knew how to take the components out. It was even easier putting it back together. Doing the project helped me understand a lot of the components because I'm a visual learner and i learn better working with my hands.

week numero 3

It is now week three of the mission tech program. So far, so good. I've learned a lot about the components of the computer and how it functions. I also learned where cables go and what they do. It has been going by really fast but at the same time it has been fun. I enjoyed making a computer box also! I can't wait for what else lies ahead in my computer tech adventure ^.^.

My First Week as a Mission Techies

Due to my experience on mission techies or the MEDA program. I have learn to the basic of IT essentials of hardware and software for this week. got to learn what is inside on a computer and learn what the computer is a fun, ongoing, interactive experience for the start of my mission techies/MEDA program experence.

My First Week as a Mission Techies

the first two weeks I learned now stuff with the mission techies it was great experiences. When you working in  group you don't feel left out they more welcome you in the group even you don't know them they are still good team meats. We were given a bunch of computers and we were tasked to get them organized by make, model and condition of equipment. We did the skill chart and the lovey dovey  orientation in the beginning. now we are doing the project, i have a lot of fun to cam her and working with others.

My first week in the Mission Techies

My first week at Mission tech was good but, I was also overwhelmed  because it my first time learning something new. I learned the names of a component and seen the inside a system software. I'm still getting use to this class, I just need to listen or ask if i don't understand. I'm doing a project that I never did in my life,so it was a surprise for me. I learned about other classmates goals and dreams what they want to do and how to accomplish them.

Christopher A Colin-Lopez

My First Week as a Mission Techies

The first week as an intern at Mission Techies has been going well. Learned basic components on hardware and software. Some projects included identifying hardware components, looking up specs and other info on laptops. We worked in teams with the other interns at Mission Techies. Everything was okay, but unfortunately a few mishaps occurred. With the exception that we hardly know each other enough to have great chemistry in a team. From my observation I saw that the other interns demonstrated hard work and good communication. Though I believe, and many others could agree as well, we can do better once we get more chances to work together. Overall I enjoy the program and looking forward to learning more and working with others.

-Leonardo G.

My First Week

I came into the Mission Techies Program not knowing anything about the tech we're learning. Four days in and I've learned a bit about Hardware and all the important components that make a computer run. I'm eager to learn everything I can. My favorite activities we've done so far are the Tech Inventory and labeling all the components inside the Dell desktop computer. I really like all the hands on training, it makes it all the better when it comes to learning.

Fabiola

My first Week in the Mission Techies Program.

This first week has been a interesting one, we have mainly learn about the basic of hardware and software. We have also done tech inventory, which has been fun and interesting, because for the first time we got to work in groups and we also got introduced to how things work around here. This have been good activities for all of us to get to know each other since we are going to be working together for 3 months.  I've had moments were I have been stressed a little because of all the information, but most of all I have enjoyed class and working with everyone. This week has been a good week, I am looking forward to the other eleven.

Kevin Poz Colop

My First Week as a Mission Techie

During my first week as a mission techie, I learned quite a few things. We first started by learning how to inventory and catalog equipment. We were given a bunch of computers and we were tasked to get them organized by make, model, and condition of the equipment. Then when we were done with that task, we moved onto organizing them based on which laptops were in working condition and which ones needed parts. The days that followed were filled with power point presentations that covered the basics of hardware and software. We also tore down a desktop in real time and had to identify all the parts that were inside of it. Starting from the main components like the hard drive and power supply to the individual wires that connected everything. This was a great activity, it helped a lot of us familiarize ourselves with the different components that are needed to make a computer function properly.

-Ashik

My First Week as a Mission Techies.

My first week as a mission techie? Still trying to wrap my head around it. It's a whole new world for me.I almost feel like I've been dropped in a foreign country trying to learn a new language and customs. But that's the whole point of a challenge, to see if you can sink or swim. But overall this first week has been exciting and exhilarating. Learning about hardware hasn't been my strong suit so far but mistakes are just reasons to improve. Looking forward to adapting to this tech world.
-Kevin Ortiz

My First Week

So far I'm having a good experience here at Mission Techies. I'm learning about Dell System Units and I have to make my own using cardboard and paper. So far I haven't started but I have a pretty good idea on how I'm going to make it. I feel like I'm going to enjoy this program because its something new. I don't know much about computers but I am sure that I will learn a lot here at this program.

- Ioaly Meza

My first week as a mission techie

During my first two weeks of the MEDA program, I already got to know the whole class as a team. I enjoyed meeting and learning about everyone's goals and future wants. I came into the program pretty clueless about technology, and so far I can say I can identify majority of the components in a desktop computer. We also worked as a team to do inventory on almost 150 computers and everyone understood their duties and roles that they were assigned. The best part of the program is that I am learning a lot everyday and working as a team has been a great experience.

- Danly

my 1st week...

Well.. I have no idea what they are talking about so far. The words?! What in the world do they mean? how are they even pronounced? So far I have learned how to do power points! Yayyy! I've also learned about data entry with computers, which was a bit confusing but quickly got the hang of it. Easy peasy. I am not good at public speaking but slowly getting over my fear about it. That's it for now.

    -Damaris

My first week as a mission techie

During the first week of my Mission tech experience I was excited to learn about computers. We started off by introducing each other and sharing what we know about computer tech. Then suddenly we where hit by a book that we needed to read that would prepare us for the next tech session. It wasn't so bad only about sixty pages, just kidding it was a lot but I was determined to finish a chapter due to my high interest in tech. So far I've been learning so much that I feel empowered already and I know I can make my life better if I work hard enough. I feel like I'm in the right spot and if you like tech this will be the perfect spot for you to learn or perfect your skills!

Mission techies 1st week

my first week in the mission techies has been a new experience for me, I don't know much about technology besides the basics. It interest me because since I don't know much I'm like a blank disc. I can be thought everything from scratch. There have been some difficulties for me specially with the terminology and figuring out where things are in a motherboard since I had never looked at one. After the first few classes I can say I look forward to learning as much as possible in the program, From software to Hardware and even coding. I want to see what catches my eye the most to possibly pursue it in the near future.
