Captain's log Stardate 22621.5

We have learned the details on careers that the tech industry has to offer from Karen. She gave us a thorough explanation on what the role of a developer and an Analyst. I have learned a lot from Enrique who brought some knowledge on what an IT does in the field and how he applies his skill. I would like to know more about the tech field and how to get around in an ever growing field. For now I see a lot of things that are interesting and trigger my curiosity. The team is also doing well and I am very proud of them for continuing their efforts in this amazing program. Until then, see ya'll next week!
we have learn the lady and Leo communicate about the computer  what we have to do for the group. we taking some training for the test and What we do not know what ROM/RAM means. There's so amny words I don't know because the speaker are not to clear. I need help. and the group helping . so Thank you.
Today we got to see how to interact with costumers as a lady came in to pick up a laptop she brought, and drop off a desk computer we got to see how to fill out the paperwork and write down what she need it to be done on her computer. I can't wait to put our hands to work on those computers its going to be fun. Today we also filled out a study guide that is going to help us for our coming up test.

Mercy (2nd Week)

The second week of Mission Techies has been great. We've progressed into discussing career options within the technology sector and how to branch out from a customer service representative standpoint to other fields within Tech. It made me feel motivated to know there are many career options that fit my interests and personal/business skills that I could explore in the near future.

In addition, we were introduced to coding/programming with Mark where we learned basic theories and concepts about programming and I was amazed to know that coding is like learning a new language. Initially it felt like a daunting task to take on, but the teacher made the lesson easy to understand; moreover, I feel the support from the Mission Techie staff, and MEDA in general, as this allows me to feel empowered to continue the program.

The experiences I have with this program are very positive and empowering, and I am continuously excited to progress in the program.

This week was very interesting and fun. We got a little preview of the things we'll be doing throughout the mission techies program. I'm really excited to learn more about coding. It's something I have no idea about but from the slides and the first few classes, It's got me feeling really good. We also had a few visitors from a start up company called One Degree. One of our assignments is to get as many people as we can to check out the site. I think the site is really good. Its a lot more efficient than if I was using Google. I really like that the searches are straight to the point and there aren't that many ads that are distractions. On Tuesday we had a visit from Rachel, she shared with us her case study on MEDA and the mission techies program. It was a great case study. Some of the things we talked about was how the Tech Industry isn't that diverse. I feel the mission techies program is a great program over all because we are getting people from our community and giving them experience and a chance to make it in the tech world. Also since mission techies is really diverse, we are kind of balancing the diversity gap in the Tech Industry as well. I thoroughly enjoyed my first full week at the mission techies program and I can't wait to be back next week.

Ramiro

The more days i attend on the mission techies program the more interesting it gets. This week we learn a little about BIOS, hardware , software and CMOS. We also did a little codding in java that was fun and interesting how one wrong key can make the computer not be able to read what you trying to make it do. Cant wait for Monday to see what else we learn and hopefully we finally get to do some hands on training on computer repair and laptops.

Elijah Toluao 2/19

Today we (Mission Techies) began the day with a group ice breaker activity where we passed an imaginary ball around the group. It was fun and it helped me feel more comfortable around my fellow techies. I felt the activity was meant to show us lessons on teamwork and just cooperating with each other. One of the messages Leo told us was no matter how hard  or easy a situation would get, we would all work together and lean on each other to  get through it. We also created power point presentations about ourselves highlighting certain skills, qualifications and experience we bring to the table or in this case the Mission Techies Program. Today was very exciting because we got a little preview about some of the things we'll be doing throughout the next 12 weeks. Going in with no experience in the Technology Industry is at times scary but with the environment and aura set up by Leo and the others at MEDA, I know I'll be just fine.

My Day Today Tania A

Today it was fun we did an icebreaker at the beginning of the class it was a good thing because we got to do it as a team like we all should be working in the program. We also got Karen and another guess who came and gave us a lot of information and also talked about things we going to be doing and working on during the program, it was a lot of information I couldn't keep it all but I'm pretty sure I'll get it as the program goes I'm pretty exited to be in the techies program.

Tech-It-Out,

As future techies we must have a digital portfolio, and today at Mission Tech we worked on creating one. We had a great start to building our digital resumes by identifying our individual skills, qualifications, education and experience; and I can clearly see how this will enable us to add on to our portfolio, in the near future, as we learn and gain new skills, and build our experience.

We also had an overview of the positions there are within the Technology sector with Karen, it was very insightful. Today was a great day.

Samuel Rivera

Today the mission techies was fun . we learn new stuff about the mouse , we write about our self what we're good at. who we are. Help each other, work hard, how we feel about grabbing a ball. a lot of experience. I feel great, I'm not scare. because we all stay strong.

Ramiro Quezada

Today was very fun/exciting we all were working together and got to see how we worked. We learned about the activities we are going to work on such as fixing a computer, taking it apart and putting it back together we also were told that we were going to learn how to create a server. I can't wait to start getting hands on training and learning new things that ill enjoy doing. I really have high hopes about this program and thankful there's places like this that help people who really want to learn and succeed.

Juan Cardenas(Techies day... On a Thursday!)

Coming in to the Mission Techies has been going great so far. Everyone is awesome, it is really an experience to be with such a diverse team. Learning about what to expect in the program is pretty exciting. Networking, Programming, and Diagnostics will be fun because the team has shown cooperation, starting with the icebreakers that Leo has brought in. Karen who has worked in the Tech Industry for several years, shared her knowledge on what to be ready for and how to manage ourselves in certain situations. Then we met Enrique who talked about his beginnings in Tech, who also shown us about what to expect when learning about Computer Networking. I feel quite confident in the people who are here at the mission techies, from the students I will be working alongside with the Teachers who will be supporting us through the program and after. It is an honor to work with all of you guys and we will accomplish many things to come as a team. Everyone has my full support through this whole program!

Hey Team!

I am excited to become a Mission Techie! My goal is to learn skills that I can utilize to help my family and my community with technology support. In the tech sector I am savvy in areas such as the internet, using the internet to facilitate various tasks in life like email, for personal and business purposes, maps, directions, etc.; research and using YouTube for all kinds of tutorials. Welcome Mission Techies Winter 2015!

Welcome Mission Techies,

Ont this Tuesday Feb 17th, 2015 I would like to acknowledged each one of you for showing up today to the first day of the program.

We are going to have lots of fun learning together and I am very excited to be your program coordinator/instructor/coach.

Here is a short description about the program:

I created this program back in the Fall of 2013 to help young adults 17-24 understand and learn IT essentials of hardware, software, networking, tech support and coding. Graduates of the program receive a $500 stipend, job readiness training, professional skills, ongoing placement, retention services, college prep and knowledge of how to enroll in post-secondary education. This program is vital entry point for low-income and moderate-income young adults to access San Francisco's technology sector, which experienced 57% growth over the last three years.

59 Young Adults have enrolled in the program since January 2014.
