Week --5&6--

This past 2 weeks  were really jam packed with fun activities. Last week started off great, we had a hands on activity that involved taking apart windows based laptops. The laptop activity helped me get better familiar with proper repair procedures. Then we got a brief presentation on LinkedIn, the presentation showed me how important it is to have a profile. This week started off even better. We got right into it with a great presentation, thanks to Jose from Salesforce. The presentation reviewed what the Salesforce platform is all about. I learned the basics of what Salesforce is and how you can use it as an individual or how it can be implemented in a business setting. Then we moved onto working on our resumes, we partnered up with our peers and reviewed each others resumes and instructed each other on how we could improve them. The week ended off with us taking apart apple Macbook Pro's. It was another great activity that showed everyone the differences of working with a windows based laptop vs working with apple products.

Week 5&6

In week 5 we pair up with a Mission techies and go wore our Resume. We learn to take out a laptop it was fun we talk about LinkedIn and Saleforce what you can do. In week 6 we learn about  Mac book Pro Howe to take a part it was a challenge for me i med it. Know we doing a project about technology you can pair up with a mission techies or do it a lone. I'm doing about Coding.

Week 6!

What's up!
02/25/16

This is our 6th week here at Mission Techies! We learned about a new platform called Saleforce. It's pretty good if you want to keep track of clients and stay in contact. Personally I don't see myself using it, but I would recommend it to someone who's either a salesman or stays in contact with customers. This week we also opened up an Apple macbook got the chance to see what's inside and what the logicboard looks like compared to a typical motherboard. I found it very helpful to use as a reference so when we start working on the computers and laptops for families. I will be able to know and what to expect as well as how to do it right. One last thing I learned this week was proper business communication. How to ask and answer the right questions. What to expect with customer interaction. I feel ready to start providing families with tech support.

Week Numero 5 & 6

This week started off really great. We created our LinkedIn profile which I've been really excited about, but I haven't filled in all the criteria. We learned about sales force, which is a great platform to help keep everything organized when running a business. We also updated our resumes with our peers to keep the ball rolling. Leo also partnered us up to set up a desktop computer with all its components to see if we knew how to set up a network. What I personally found really interesting this week was taking apart a MAC laptop. It was quite easy surprisingly and I didn't have any trouble at all. I am really looking forward in helping our clients solve their problems because I am confident being a tech supporter!

WEEK #5&6

Week five we took apart a laptop and assembled back together we also practice our customer service tech support skills with Emerson to help us get ready for the tech support workshop we will be doing soon. We also worked more on our linkedin profiles and got more knowledge on what are the important things that we should have on it, also that we should only be doing connections with people we actually know. Week 6 was good it began with starting to work on Salesforce, we continued to look over our resumes. With help from another techie we looked over and got feedback on it. That was really great because there was things that we might have felt were good but to someone else it didn't sound great. We finished by doing a macbook pro dissembling and assembling it back together, it was fun because it shows the difference between apple laptops and other brand laptops. There are so many more screws in a Macbook that its easy to get confused, but by practicing now helps us get ready for when people begin to bring in laptops next week.

week 6

Well, this week was nice. i had a partner on Monday, or Tuesday and he taught me how to "fix" a computer if it's not turning on, which was because  the battery was dead and basically the laptop needed a new battery. on Monday we are going to do  a clean stall, i think that's what its call. Today, Thursday, i learned how to take the hard drive out of a mac pro which was pretty easy. In two weeks we have to present to our group and some staff that work here. I don't even know what I'm going to present yet so i better get on it! OK that's it for today!

Week numero seis

Tons of stuff we learned this week. Salesforce is a really cool platform, it offers endless freedom to adjust and make it completely tailored to your needs. LinkedIn is also a really awesome and professional way to network and build past and or current connections. I thoroughly enjoy it and I look forward to using it in future endeavors in tech career paths. Speaking of career paths, we worked on our resumes this week with a partner and critiqued and helped each other out. And pizza to start the week! Cant beat free food lol and today we took apart macbooks (surprisingly the easiest computers ive worked on thus far x).  week 6 out!

Week numba 6

This week was a memorable week. I finally got to disassemble a laptop. I dissembled and put back together an acer laptop and a mac book pro. The acer laptop took a lot longer to take apart then a macbook pro so I hope in the future I work more on mac books. This is something that I wanted to do a long time ago so I can work on my own laptop. I worked with a mission techie on my resume. We also worked on our linkedin profiles. Finally we worked on something new called sales force. Sales force is an app where you can create contacts and use it as a source of information to contact many customers. And this week we got our checks, ayye.

Week #6 has been a good week for me. Today I learned how to take apart a MAC laptop, it was much easier than the HP laptop I took apart last week. There was many screws for the MAC laptop but they were mostly the same sizes. I think I'm going to take one home and keep practicing at home.

Week #4

This week was great, we started off with a bit of a competition. We raced to see who could dissemble and reassemble the desktop computer the fastest. This activity helped us get reacquainted with the components of the computer. After the competition, we were sent out into the mission district to find local tech shops. The scavenger hunt, helped us get familiar with the surrounding tech shops and what the average repair rate was. Overall it was a great week, I really learned a lot.

WEEK 4

Hey guys,

this week we tested our speed in taking apart a PC which was fun felt a bit competitive but it was more to see where in the process we are of learning all the PC components. I felt a bit slow with my results felt like I could have done much better. I'm sure I wasn't the only one that felt that way, but now I feel a lot more comfortable taking a PC apart. We also went out into the mission to check some of the places that deal with fixing computers, see what kind of service they offered along with how they offered it. Some places had good customer service while others lacked most of it. The prices for them vary as well even if it was the same problem. Began to work on our resumes.

week numero 4

This week at MEDA I went to 2 stores with a partner to ask them if they provided tech support to customers. One store on 20th did provide tech support, but their customer service was poor. the other store i went to on 19th didn't provide tech support but they're customer service was good. even though  the guy didn't know what he was talking about he still tried to help us. Over all, I had a good experience and i learned how not to make the same mistakes they did when I provide customer service.

Week number 4!!!!

This week started off with a little competition because Leo decided to time us on how fast we can take apart and assemble back a system unit. I thought it was a bit challenging, but it was great that he did this activity because it allowed us to remember where and what everything is. He also sent us on a hunt for tech shops around the mission district to see how informational these shops were when it comes to questions and tech support. Leo wanted us to go through what they go through on the daily basis because we will soon have to answer and fix other peoples problems. We also had two guest speakers come in and help us with our resume and teach us about tech support. The last thing we did this week was learning how to do networking and create a network with a group of computers without using internet. Week five lets do it!

week #3

Here in my third week just made a cardboard processing unit (a computer made from cardboard) or CPU and dismantle a computer and rebuild it takes time but simple to me still having fun in the program.

WEEK #3

What's good,

It's week # 3 here at Mission Techies. I have learned a bit more about computers. Currently we are checking the specs on Lenovo Laptops. Another subject we learned about in the program was networking. Through networking we can present ourselves in the professional world and gain connections for particular fields we are interested in. We also presented our projects which was to make a computer case out of cardboard and  add the different components with labels. This helped me differentiate the different components that make a computer work. We also opened up a computer and took everything apart. I also found out that HP computers are complicated but nothing too serious to get frustrated about. So far I'm enjoying Mission Techies and I'm thankful for the opportunity.

Week Three

Week three of the Mission Techies Program has been exceptional. I really enjoyed everything we did and learned this week. I had a lot of fun making my own system unit out of cardboard and materials we had laying around. Tuesday we had the chance to do hands on hardware training which was amazing. We stripped a Dell Tower down to the bare metal, took every component and wire out and got the real feel of working with computer hardware. It was a little changeling at first but I had help from my peers so eventually I was able to do it on my own. The only problem was I didn't remember what went where. I just ended up using a picture I took of the Tower last week and went from there. Today we did the inventory for Lenovo Laptops which ran smoothly.

WEEK #3

What's up Docks,

This week was interesting to begin with since we all had to bring in our little cardboard projects. It showed some of our creative side and also help some of us learn more about the hardware of a computer. There are still many things I don't really understand but getting there as we learn. We began to learn about how we will have to create a professional account in Twitter, Linkin, FB, and so on. Getting to take the hardware out of a computer was pretty cool as well since I had never done that before. Got to see all the components inside and how each one is connected to one another. Looking forward to learning how to refurbish and also install software on computers.

Week Three

This week has been a god one, I got to bee supervisor for the second time and we are getting close to learning how to install software. We also completed a project were we had to create a system unit and after that we got to take a real system unit apart and after put it back together, it was a fun experience were I realized that its not as easy as it looks, there is many hidden screws and when you think you might be done you always missed one. I guess it was like this for me because its the first time I took a computer apart.

Week #3

I'm really happy to be in this class and that I'm learning a little bit of how computers work. I'm still a little bit nervous about what to do and to know about other computers. I really like this class a lot and i want to know more about it and learn.when i graduate this class i can repair my own computer or anyone that has a broken computer or laptop. Hopefully i can graduate from this class and know what to do when i start finding work that can fix and repair technology.

Recap of 3rd week

In our third week of MEDA, we started off the week by learning our hardware components. Prior to that, our take home assignment was to be creative and make a computer out of cardboard and we had to label and make all the components we remembered. After we presented our work, we actually took apart and put back together a Dell computer. It was pretty exciting to do because I enjoyed the hands on activity and it wasn't too hard with the help of my peers. Later in the week, a guest speaker came in to explain how important social media is and how it can benefit us in the future. She told us that she would guide us on creating our own LinkedIn profiles. We ended the week by doing more data entry/inventory making sure all the other laptops were in good condition.

Week #3

This week in MEDA, we started off by sharing our cardboard desktops that we made at home. We then learned how to completely dismantle desktop computers. Then we went about identifying the components that were pulled out from the desktop. After that, we preceded to put the computer back together. During this activity I got more comfortable with being able to properly identify the specific components that are inside of a desktop computer. We also learned to about social media and how it can be utilized as a tool to connect with potential employers. I try to stay away from social media, but the presentation made it clear as to why it can be important. Overall, this week was very informative and I learned a lot.

Week Numero Tres is over and this has been a jam packed week! Its been a challenge keeping up with everything we been learning the last week but its been a hell of a ride! building a computer out of cardboard and labeling each different component was fun but I've never been much of an arts and crafts guy. However to my surprise I did really enjoy taking apart a computer and putting it back again. Hardware might come easier for me but the goal is mastering software and picking up some coding on the way. What i really took away for this week was and is learning to balance my personal life with this program, I get what I put in and I might be skating by but the point is to excel and grow, not cruise along. Until a better me next week, Kilobyte Kev out!

Week three

This is week three at mission techies. So far I've learned all the components inside the system unit, I've taken it apart and will be putting it together today after class. I did data entry again this week which was kind of boring now. Monday i turned in a homemade cardboard computer. So it was kind of a mellow week for me.
 -Damaris
This week I learned how to identify, take out, and put back a system unit. It was very easy for me to understand what we were doing as soon as I knew how to take the components out. It was even easier putting it back together. Doing the project helped me understand a lot of the components because I'm a visual learner and i learn better working with my hands.

week numero 3

It is now week three of the mission tech program. So far, so good. I've learned a lot about the components of the computer and how it functions. I also learned where cables go and what they do. It has been going by really fast but at the same time it has been fun. I enjoyed making a computer box also! I can't wait for what else lies ahead in my computer tech adventure ^.^.
